Perhaps you are visiting this site because you know of a friend or family member who has recently experienced a pregnancy or early infant loss. While you would like to undo the sorrow that loss has brought, you cannot. There are many things you can do to bring comfort: be a caring listener, share resources, educate yourself on the do's and don'ts of caring, know when to refer and give the gift of a comfort blanket.
In these next few pages you will read the story behind the blanket giving as well as some basic guidelines to optimize the encouragment and comfort this concept has been designed to give. Please take time to review each page in this section in the order in which they are presented.
The Billy Blanket Project, established in 1999, has positively touched the lives of many through correspondence, the gift of blankets, resources, and outreach including workshops, radio, and one-on-one interaction with grieving parents. It is the express desire of The Billy Blanket Project to extend caring and concern to parents grieving the loss of a child through pregnancy or early infant loss.
The Billy Blanket Project is built on the premise:
that total (body, soul/spirit, mind)healing comes only through Jehovah God.
that a grief addressed, released and committed to God, is redeemable. He can bring good out of loss.
As such, the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ is held forth as the venue through which healing and restoration comes.
Our mission is to extend comfort and encouragement to those who have lost a child through pregnancy, early infant loss, and abortion.
Our primary goal is to help those who hurt find restoration and reconciliation with God, self, and others. Our secondary goal is to equip others to be instruments of compassion, effectively ministering grace and healing to those who are in need of restoration and reconciliation with God, self, and others.
Within these pages you will find information which will equip YOU to extend comfort to a grieving parent through the story of the Billy Blanket Project and the gift of a comforting blanket.
The picture you see at the top of this page was designed by Colorado Artist Julie Bergeron . I asked Julie to create a drawing which would illustrate that moment when I was finally able to release my into the hands of Jesus. Julie depicted my heart in her drawing.
